Why it matters

Kente and adire cloths repeat a small pattern across the whole cloth. Loops let a program draw repeating patterns the same way.

Inside the module.

4 lessons in order, about 45 minutes in all, then a short test. Learners go at their own pace; the minutes are a guide, not a timetable.

  1. Lesson 1: Repeating a group

Put several blocks inside one repeat so the whole group repeats.

    Explain10 min, from minute 0

  2. Lesson 2: Draw a square

Move and turn, four times over, to draw a square.

Worked example10 min, from minute 10

  3. Lesson 3: Fences and flowers

Draw a fence of posts and a flower of petals with loops.

    Practice15 min, from minute 20

  4. Lesson 4: Predict, then run

Say what a loop will draw before pressing run, then check.

    Practice10 min, from minute 35

  5. End-of-module test

Draw given patterns with loops and predict what unfamiliar loops will draw.

Mastered at 85% or more. Retake it until you pass; nothing is lost, and each try gives feedback.

Already know it? A Challenge Test (planned) clears the whole module: 90% overall, no objective below 75%.

  • Built to run offline

Planned to run on the Lantern's own computer, with no internet needed.

  • Languages

Planned first in English; every module aims to reach all of the Lantern's languages.
