Instructions in order

Put blocks in the right order to reach a goal, and fix one that is out of place.

Planned. This module is part of the plan and is not written yet.

Why it matters

A recipe for jollof rice only works if you wash the rice before you cook it. A computer follows instructions in exactly the order you give them, even more strictly than a cook.

Inside the module.

4 lessons in order, about 45 minutes in all, then a short test. Learners go at their own pace; the minutes are a guide, not a timetable.

  1. Lesson 1: Steps in order

Everyday routines, like getting ready for school, show that order matters.

    Explain10 min, from minute 0

  2. Lesson 2: Guide the goat to the well

Snap picture blocks together so a goat walks a path to the well.

    Practice15 min, from minute 10

  3. Lesson 3: Find the mixed-up step

Each program has one block in the wrong place: find it, move it and run it again.

    Practice15 min, from minute 25

  4. Lesson 4: Check your skills

A short round of ordering and fixing puzzles.

    Review5 min, from minute 40

  5. End-of-module test

Put short sets of picture-block instructions in order to reach a goal, and fix programs that have one step in the wrong place.

Mastered at 85% or more. Retake it until you pass; nothing is lost, and each try gives feedback.

Already know it? A Challenge Test (planned) clears the whole module: 90% overall, no objective below 75%.

  • Languages

Planned first in English; every module aims to reach all of the Lantern's languages.

Needs first

This module has no prerequisites of its own. Like every first step, it assumes the Digital skills gateway: the first module on using a computer, which a Challenge Test clears in minutes.

The route here.

Everything this module builds on, drawn as a route from its foundations. Solid lanes must be mastered first, or cleared by a Challenge Test; dashed lanes are suggestions that never lock anything.

This module has no prerequisites of its own. Like every first step, it assumes the Digital skills gateway: the first module on using a computer, which a Challenge Test clears in minutes.

Every route on this map starts in a classroom with 24 stations, a tutor that works offline and a facilitator upstairs. Four are planned and waiting for light.
