Safe for children. Straight with donors.

How we protect children and their data, how your gift is used, and what we will publish next. We set it out now, while Lantern 1 is under construction, so you can hold us to it.

These policies are drafts. They are being formalised for adoption by the board, and this page will say when they are adopted.

What we promise every child.

The most important protections are built into the Lantern itself, not left to good intentions: faces never leave the building, filtering cannot be switched off, and donors only ever see totals.

For now, our Safeguarding Lead is the founder.

Safeguarding and child dataDraft policy · Being formalised
  • Donors see totals

Supporters see aggregates only. Never a child’s name, a linked face or a learning record.

  • Faces stay at the Lantern

Face data and camera footage never leave the Lantern. Footage is overwritten after 72 hours.

  • Consent for every image

No child’s image is published without written parental consent. Consent can be withdrawn, and the image comes down within 7 days.

  • Deleted on request

A family can ask us to delete their child’s data. We do it within 30 days.

  • Village, never closer

We never give a child’s location more precisely than the village.

  • Filtering always on

The children’s browsing and the public Wi-Fi are filtered at all times, with no local override.

  • Checked adults

Every staff member is checked, trained and signs a code of conduct. Facilitators are police-checked and serve a 90-day probation.

  • The home is private

No child enters the facilitator’s home above the classroom.

  • Free to every child

Regardless of family, religion, gender, disability or schooling.

Finding talent, without exposing a child.

The talent layer is how we notice the children who are flying, so scholarships can find them. That only works if families can trust what happens to the record.

  • Each child signs in with their face and an optional PIN. No email address, no username.
  • Mastery is recorded objective by objective, so we can see who is flying. Those records stay inside the programme.
  • The tutor’s conversations are deleted after 30 days.
  • Our data standard is the strictest of the data laws in the four countries we plan to work in.

  • Restricted means restricted

A gift for a Lantern stays with that Lantern. It is never folded into general reserves.

  • 15% overhead, stated up front

Each target includes 15% overhead, on top of the build and three years of running costs.

  • Built only when fully funded

We do not start a Lantern we cannot finish and run for three years.

  • Card details never touch our site
