Mixed numbers and improper fractions
Two and a half, or five halves? Move between the two ways of writing it.
Planned. This module is part of the plan and is not written yet.
Why it matters
A recipe needs two and a half cups of flour and the only scoop holds half a cup: that is five scoops, because 2 1/2 = 5/2.

Lesson 1: Two ways to write it
See 2 1/2 and 5/2 as the same amount with pictures of cups.
Explain10 min, from minute 0
Lesson 2: Improper to mixed
Divide 11 by 4: 2 remainder 3, so 11/4 = 2 3/4.
Worked example15 min, from minute 10
Lesson 3: Mixed to improper
Multiply the whole number by the denominator, then add the numerator.
Worked example15 min, from minute 25
Lesson 4: On the number line
Place mixed numbers between whole numbers on a line.
Practice15 min, from minute 40
Lesson 5: Review
Mixed conversion questions, with feedback on each.
Review5 min, from minute 55
End-of-module test
Convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions, and place mixed numbers on a number line.
Mastered at 85% or more. Retake it until you pass; nothing is lost, and each try gives feedback.
Already know it? A Challenge Test (planned) clears the whole module: 90% overall, no objective below 75%.

Planned first in English; every module aims to reach all of the Lantern's languages.
Try a question.
One question from the module, as a learner would meet it. Have a go, then open the worked solution a step at a time.

Everything this module builds on, drawn as a route from its foundations. Solid lanes must be mastered first, or cleared by a Challenge Test; dashed lanes are suggestions that never lock anything.
