The first Lantern stands on the founder’s family land in Ewossa.

Ewossa is a village in Edo State, Nigeria. Lantern 1 is under construction there: a classroom, a home for its facilitator, and its own power and connection.

Lantern 1 isn’t raising funds. Gifts go to Lanterns 2 to 5.

The first Lantern goes home to Ewossa.

Omi spent much of his early years in Ewossa, and the first Lantern stands here, on his family’s land. A school that arrives on a truck and powers itself is meant for villages like this one, so this is where it starts.

Lantern 1 is the whole model in one place: a classroom, a home for the facilitator, its own power and its own connection. It is the first real test of everything we say about it.

“Basic education is meant to be free and a basic human right.”
